A COWARDLY MURDER, OF CECILIA OBA, FORMER MAYOR OF YEI RIVER COUNTY
uba: 10 November.The Former mayor of Yei River County Cecilia Oba Tito, the first female mayor in central Equatoria State has been kidnapped and tortured to death along with her personal office manager. She was taken from her home in Jebel, Juba, by unknown armed men.
According to a family member who spoke exclusively to South Sudan Liberty News that, after the former mayor was kidnapped, she was badly tortured and beaten to death.By the report of the family member, who asked for his/her identity to be sealed, due to ongoing investigation and fear of reprisal againts members of the family, that initial investigation revealed there is no signs of gunshots wounds on the bodies of the two victims.
South Sudan Liberty News has seen the gruesome pictures of both, the late Mayor and her office manager, but due to the graphic natures of the images, we declined to post them since some of our viewers would find them extreemely disturbing and dehumanizing.
The brutality inflicted on her by her attackers and killers is despicable, her body was mutilated beyond recognitions. All indicators are that this attack was carefully planned and excutated, to set equatorian people into panic, and it is a clear evidence that the security situation in Juba has worsen, particularly against Equatorians and vocal learders.
The family member who spoke exclusively to SSLN stated, their sister has no enemies within Kakuwa community both in Juba and Yei, therefore the main suspects according to this family member is the presidential guards, who are notorious for gruesome killings and the only visible security organs operating in the area around where the bodies of the former Yei Mayor and her office manager were damped.
The family member, in addition implores all the great people of Yei and Equatoria to unite in demanding justice for their late sister in finding the killers of their loved one who has been brutally taken from them, too soon and bring the criminals to face true justice whoever they may be“ we are calling on the people of Yei and Equtoria at larger to support our family in order to catch the killers of my sister and bring them to face the true justice” s/he said. “We should not leave any single stone unturned, we need impartial and independent investigation” s/he added
The family refused to accept that Cecilia was murdered because of a dispute she had with former commissioner of Yei, s/he said the former Mayor had no grudge with the former commissioner of Yei County.
"Therefore this killing has nothing to do with what happened when my sister was a mayor, the dispute was normal and was part of administrative work and proceedures in the office of former mayor and the comissioner" the family member added.
The family member said, the security situation in Juba is getting worse, as the dinka security organs have intensified their targeted attack on Equatorian politicians, military and police officers, particularly those who are independednt thinkers,who do not sing kiir public praises.
This is a sign that the Dinka led government has once again intensified their mission to disarm members of Equatorian military, and target equatorian politicians to subdue the Equatorians from speaking about the ongoing debate of federalism.
S/he said Equatoria should wake up and defend their rights to liberate themselves from the hands of this tyrannical autocratic, tribal regime of Kiir who clearly takes pleasures in the killings of innocent fellow citizens, as killing is common cultural practises among the Dinka tribe. This is something we are not used to because we don't kill our opponets, but we rather resolved our issues on round tables.
