Juba, 15 May 2021; Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, of Central Equatoria state, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on his life, Governor Adil's military convoy was traveling on Thursday from Juba to Yei when the assailants ambushed the heavily armed military convey.
The attack on the governor convoy left four bodyguards dead and two seriously injured, among the dead bodyguards were two security personnel from National Service Services (NSS) while two were from the South Sudan National police service, one dead member of the National Security services who died on spot was identified Francis Taban, another one has not been identified, while the two dead were from police forces.
Nobody or group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Governor Emmanuel Adil's convoy, however, state information Minister of Central Equatoria State, Hon Paulo Lokudu was quick to blame the holdout rebel group of National Salvation Army (NAS) of Lt General Thomas Cirilo.
Minister Paulo Lokudu cautioned the civilian from using Juba-Yei Road without the escort of a security convoy.
The Thursday attack occurred in Kagwada, in Kanji Payam Juba county, this came after ten people were killed along Juba-Yei Road last month.
NAS spokesperson Suba Samuel Manese did not make a statement to refute the claim made by the Central Equtoria state government spokesperson Paulo Lokudu.
