AT LEAST 7 SOUTH SUDANESE CHILDREN DIED IN MAAIJI SETTLEMENT IN ADJUMANI WITH UNEXPLODED BOOM

Adjumani, 19 Feb.2021; At least seven (7) South Sudanese children were killed in Maaiji Refugee settlement, Adjumani District northern Uganda. an eyewitness narrated to this publication the children age between ten and 15 years on Tuesday 16 February when for hunting in the nearby bush and found unexploded rocket-propelled believed to have been left by Lord Resistant Army (LRA) of Joseph Kony in 1990s to early 2000s.  

The same eyewitness revealed to SSL, that the boys carried the unexploded device home and hide it away from their parents, later on, they attempted to dismantle it to understand what is it inside the device, in the first attempt they failed and returned the device to its hidden place.  

Meanwhile, on Wednesday 17 February, persuaded with determination one of the boys got the device out from its hiding location and hit with hard mental and boom exploded killing three children from the one family on spot, while two more children died on the way to Adjumani referral Hospital.  

Two others according to the same source died while on their way to Mulago Hospital for specialized treatment.  

Due to graphic images and with respect for the family's privacy, we decided not to publish the gruesome images, some of the dead and injured children have their body parts scattered.
