Juba, 27 December 2020; Ambassador Telar Riing Deng former South Sudan Ambassador to Russia and former aide to President Kiir has died, Source who spoke to SSLN on the condition of anonymity said the former South Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow died with covid-19 related illness on Sunday in the capital Juba.
According to the anonymous source ambassador, Telar Deng died today (Sunday) at Aspen medical center in Juba. The same source added Mr. Telar was admitted to the medical facility and has been receiving treatment for other illnesses and later tested positive with Covid-19.
Rumors of ambassador Telar's illness first came into the light on the eve of Christmas, it was announced on the Facebook account that bears the name of Telar Riig Deng, " I tested positive for covid-19while undergoing treatment at Aspen Medical Centre after a short period of illness" wrote ambassador Telar.
“I was immediately transferred to the infection Disease Unit (IDU) and currently stable" partly reads the message from Mr. Telar.
He further cautioned South Sudanese, " as we head into the festive season, we should be vigilant and remember that covid-19 still exists, let's continue wearing our masks, maintaining social distancing and washing our hands or sanitizing," he wrote.
Ambassador Telar was a close ally to President Kiir, he later falls out with Kiir while he was serving as the country’s ambassador to Moscow, he was, however, convinced by the traditional advisory of the Jieng Council of elders, he later returned to Juba and reconciled with President Kiir though wasn’t reinstated to his ambassadorial post.
