TWO GOVERNMENT SOLDIERS KILLED IN CLASHES WITH NAS IN LOKA

Lainya, 4 December 2020; South Sudan People's Defense Force (SSPDF) and National Salvation Front (NAS) under the leadership of Gen Thomas Cirilo have clashed in Loka, Lainya County, Central Equatoria state. 

According to a reliable source, two government soldiers were killed, and three others were wounded. 

An eyewitness told this publication on the phone that heavy fighting started yesterday (Thursday) and it continues this morning (Friday) The same source revealed to SSLN that government forces are using heavy artillery to shell civilian-populated areas after the shelling ground troops have invaded civilians area and caused untold destruction including burning of houses and collateral damages. 

At least two unarmed civilians were confirmed to have been killed deliberately by SSPDF after foot soldiers entered the Loka area where the Thursday clash happened.  

In revenge killing Mr. Emmanuel Zacchaeus Lujang and Loboro Lemi Lorong were killed and score others were reported to have been wounded, those wounded included elderly women and small children who were deliberately cut by pangas by government militias 

The Episcopal Church of South Sudan, Bishop Paul Pitia Yugusuk expressed his displeasure over the killing and renewal of fresh fighting as the government and South Sudan Opposition Movement Alliance/ SSOMA are in peace talks in Rome. 

Bishop Yugusuk called for the two warring sides to respect and halt attacking civilians, he also calls the ceasefire verification body, IGAD, and the international community at large to immediately investigate the continued attacks on civilians. 

In recent days clashes among the warring parties have intensified in Central Equatoria State.  Fighting has also been ongoing between SSPDF forces under general Lokujo and SPLA-IO in the greater Kajo-keji area. 

In the area of Moroto in Kajo-keji county civilians have continued to accuse forces of SPLA-IO of looting, raping, abduction, and killing of civilians.
