13 Feb.2020: SPLMA-IO has rejected the call for President Kiir to attend the consultation meeting scheduled to take place on Friday 14 February 2020, at Freedom Square in capital Juba.
In response SPLA-IO governor for Torit state, Hon Gov Nathaniel Oyet said on the message he posted on his Facebook page, " SPLA-IO will not and never be part of the consultations on the number of states slated by the government." write Gov. Oyet.
He further said, " We stand by the last decision of the IGAD summit ratified by the tripartite meeting of H.E. Hamdok, H.E. Salva Kiir, H. E. Yoweri K., and H.E. Dr. Riek Machar." he stated.
The SPLA-IO official was here referring to the decision taken by IGAD on Sunday in which all the parties in the closed-door meeting held in Addis Ababa have agreed to revert to ten constitutional states, in a closed-door according to IGAD, President Kiir in principle agreed to ten states, however, he asked for more time to consult with his colleagues in Juba. Kiir is to report back to IGAD on Saturday 15 February 2020.
Hon Governor Oyet further stated. "We don’t agree with any attempt to undo the decision of Addis Ababa meetings which endorsed ten (10) constitutional states for the transitional period."
He advised President Kiir to show leadership and prevail over his subordinates, "President Salva Kiir should show leadership at this critical juncture and prevail over his subordinates and propel the country towards peace and transitional period."
