SATURDAY TALKS HELD IN ADDIS ABABA BETWEEN KIIR AND MACHAR HAS FAILED

Addis Ababa, 9 Feb. 2020; Saturday talks held alongside African Union 33 annually meeting in Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa to mitigate way to end the conflict in South Sudan has failed. 

 

The source who attended the talks chaired by South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday from Addis Ababa, has failed to bring Kiir and Machar to narrow their differences on the outstanding issues including the reduction of 32 states and their internal boundaries. 

 

Without divulging the details, he said the talks between Kiir and Machar are scheduled to resume today [Sunday]. 

Meanwhile, David Shear former New Zealand's member of Parliament who is now heading the United Nations Mission in South Sudan confirmed the two leaders have failed to narrow the gap of their differences, nevertheless, he said the talks will continue, he said UN boss Antonio Guterres is scheduled to meet both Kiir and Machar in Addis Ababa to add more support for the leaders to compromise and agree to bring an end to the more than 6 years war.
