Entebbe, 7 November 2019: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, Gen. Abdelftah Alburhan head of the transitional sovereign council of Sudan, Salva Kiir the President of South Sudan and Dr. Riek Machar chairman of SPLA-IO. met at Entebbe [State House] to discuss the pending unresolved issues to Revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan.
The meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere according to the communique released at the end of the meeting in Entebbe, Uganda today[07 November 2019]
The Entebbe meeting was seen as a sign of victory for Dr. Riek Machar who reiterated his rejection to be part of the supposed upcoming Transitional government of National Unity. It was a blow to Kiir who consistently vows that he will form the unity government without Machar.
The meeting acknowledged that there are critical incomplete tasks that are supposed to be addressed first before the formation of the unity government. The Entebbe meeting underscored the issues of the security arrangements, governance including the formation of TGoNU.
Therefore, the Entebbe statehouse meeting agreed to extend the Pre-transitional period by 100 days starting from 12 November 2019, to allow for outstanding issues to be resolved.
According to the communique seen by SSLN, the meeting further resolved that the parties that met today in the statehouse in Entebbe, Uganda will meet again after 50 days to review progress and then they will report back to the heads of state, and to the parties. Thereafter, the representatives of the IGAD to Entebbe meeting will converge the IGAD meeting to decide the status of Dr. Machar's forceful confinement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
In conclusion, the leaders of the meeting called upon the international community to support the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
