Juba, 19 October 2019: South Sudanese designated First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar on Saturday arrived in Juba amid growing international pressure for him and Kiir to form a unity government. This is the second time in less than two months Machar returned to Juba to try and save the fragile peace agreement as of November deadline for the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity with President Salva Kiir and other opposition groups approach.
The two men according to Manawa Peter Gatkuot a senior SPLA-IO official said,” the two leaders will meet behind-closed-doors at J1 also known as the Presidential palace and this closed-door meeting will take place today (Saturday),”
Machar who landed in Juba international airport on-board Sudan airline was accompanied by the huge delegation, and also 300 unarmed SPLA-IO troops according to Manawa Peter will arrive in capital Juba later on Saturday, and they will immediately be directed to their cantonment pending the beginning of their intense training before they could be deployed as VIP protection force.
