KIIR WON'T ATTEND IGAD CONSULTATIVE MEETING IN ADDIS WITH MACHAR

Juba, 14 August 2019: The regional bloc of IGAD has invited all parties to the conflict in South Sudan and signatories to Khartoum peace accord to attend emergency meeting in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on 21 August 2019.

According to the letter, a copy seen by South Sudan Liberty News, each party is tasked to send three representatives to attend the consultative meeting on 21 August 2019.

Machar's SPLA-IO group confirmed receiving the invitation and said Machar, his deputy Henry Odwar and Machar's wife Angelina will be in attendance.

However, there is cloud of doubts casted by the South Sudan's government, the information Minister who doubled as government spokesperson, Michael Makuei said President Kiir will not be attending the meeting on 21 August to discuss the progress of lagging  behind peace agreement because the consultative meeting is not meant for head of states.

Makuei said Juba will be sending representatives, however he declined to divulged the names of the representatives to be send to the meeting by Juba.

Makuei further said that President Kiir is ready to form the Transitional Government of National Unity in November without any delay and postponement.

The parties are in crucial stage as they are left with three months to form the Transitional government of national unity, however, Machar's reiterated that he won't come to Juba without achieving core outstanding issues such as the formation of National army, as well the issue of states among others.
