GOV'T SOLDIERS IN ASWA BLAMED REBEL GROUP OF PAUL MALONG FOR DEADLY ATTACK ON JUBA-NIMULE ROAD

Nimule, 10 July 2019: South Sudan Liberty has confirmed from the reliable sources within SSPDF that on 7 July 2019, there has been an incident in Pageri County, Torit State, between the soldiers of SSPDF and some armed men believed to be loyal to former South Sudan army chief of staff Gen. Paul Malong.  

According to a senior officer within the SSPDF who spoke to SSL news on the condition of anonymity, the government soldiers went and attacked the rebel training base said to be set up by armed men belong to General Malong, the training camp according to the SSPDF was operating in hidden location deep in the bushes, at the confluence of  Rivers Aswa and Atapi. 

It is believed the armed men were training and preparing to attack several targets within Pageri County. 

Following the dispersing of the base of the armed men on 7 July 2019, some of the heavily armed men came at attack civilian cars along Nimule-Juba road, at Aswa area, the attack happened on 8 and 9 July 2019 respectively. 

According to some survivors of the incidents, they said two people were killed and several others were wounded in the attacks. According to another officer within SSPDF who spoke to this reporter on the condition of anonymity, said two of the armed men were killed and other two were captured and taken to Juba, the same informant within the SSPDF said one of the men that has been captured was an officer in SSPDF who was based in Nimule, he wondered how his colleague defected and joined the rebel training camp said to be operating thick forest
