FORMER OIL MINISTER EZEKIEL LOL UNDER HOUSE ARREST

Juba, 4 July 2019: South Sudan Liberty news has learned from a reliable source that former country's oil Minister Ezekiel Gatkouth Lol has been placed under house arrest in his home in country's capital Juba. 

According to the reliable source who spoke to SSLN in the condition of anonymity revealed to this reporter that the diplomatic passport of the former oil Minister Gatkuoth has been withdrawn and armed security personnel has been deployed at his home and along the roads leading to his residence. 

The same source who said he was prevented from visiting the former Minister from his home and other visitors have been turned away from accessing the residence of Ezekiel Gatkuoth. 

Ezekiel Lol was fired as he was on a foreign trip to Nigeria on 12 June, there was no apparent reason given related to his removal, he has been replaced by Director-General in the ministry of petroleum Mr. Awow Daniel Chuang. 

On 26 June South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has set up a committee to investigate mechanisms used in pre-sales of the country’s crude oil. This came barely two weeks after he sacked Ezekiel  Gatkuoth Lol. 

In the same Presidential decree Mr. Kiir ordered for a complete inquiry into the number of pre-sale agreements and companies allocated crude oil on the basis of pre-sale. 

The investigation committee is headed by Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro and Six other government officials from various institutions and the committee is expected to submit its findings within 14 working days into the office of the President.
