Juba, 30 April 2019; Developing news from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, source who was present in the closed doors meeting between South Sudan parties with IGAD said the meeting concluded without substantial agreement.
The source who spoke in condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media since the issue sensitive, said the government saw no sign of willingness, “they came with full intention that is they are determent whatever the outcomes of today’s IGAD consultation meeting, they are ready to form transitional Government of National Unity with or without Riek Machar. “
So, the government according to the source declared that they'll form R-GoNU by May 12.
However, he said SPLA-IO still maintains and demands for six-month extension of the Security Arrangement and others activities before formation of Unity government.
The South Sudan Opposition Alliance however, came out with the extension of the three Months, they cited the extension of three months is necessary so that the parties can work to address outstanding issues such as, the creation and the training of the unified security sector, and other related matters pertaining the Unity government.
“Now the ball has been rolled to National Pre-Transitional Committee, they are tasked to go to the President tomorrow on Wednesday for final decision either to form the government or to extend it.” he said.
“It is likely the President will go ahead for formation of Unity government without unity of the warring parties, the decision to form the unity government which will be divisive government will likely take the warring back to fresh and deadly fighting.” said political analyst.
Security expert told this reporter that the general mood is the regime in Juba has more appetite for war than for peace and they think they have now trapped some SPLA-IO officials in Juba, so they would prefer to hold hostage those opposition officials and generals to force Machar to accept the version of unity government.
