Nimule, 18 March 2019: The second confidence and trust building exercise between SPLA-IO Pageri Brigade and the government has taken place on 16-03-2019, in Nimule, Pageri County. It is hosted by the county authority.
The government was represented by County Commissioner of Pageri County, Maj. General Emilio Igga, Nimule Town Council clerk, South Sudan People's Defense Force commander of Tiger battalion in Pageri, National Legislative Assembly members, the senior police officer of Nimule and other government dignitaries.
The SPLA-IO delegations include the Pageri Brigade Commander Brigadier Charles Rumunu, while other representatives include; members of SPLA-IO National Liberation Council, senior SPLA-IO military officers, youth and women representatives.
While civilian side includes religious leaders, youth, women and business community representatives in Nimule. The second confidence and trust building meeting was held in a very frankly environment, it was held in the compound of St. Patrick School Motoyo, the ground was filled by a very jubilant crowd.
The meeting confidence and trust building meeting started at around 14:00 pm and run through 18:00 pm local time. The atmosphere was joyful and the speakers spoke with zeal and enthusiasm as they were cheered by shouts and songs of the audience.
Both the SPLA-IO and government representatives spoke of the need for full implementation of chapters 2 and 3 of the agreement. Other speakers also spoke about making peace sustainable and giving the people a chance for development.
The SPLA-IO reaffirmed its commitment to the implementation of the peace agreement and challenged the government to do the same. More specifically Brigadier Rumunu appealed to his counterpart, Brigadier Yong Mabior the need to tell his soldiers to vacate the civilian areas as stipulated in the security agreement. Brigadier Mabior on his part said he is waiting for orders from his superiors.
