Wau, 06 March 2019; South Sudan's embattling leader Kiir on Tuesday apologizes to the people of Wau for the devastation and destruction brought on them by the war, however,  Kiir's critics said the apology by the President is not enough to bring healing and comfort to the devasted people of Wau and the entire country, given the president’s claimed to have no knowledge yet this war was authored and commanded by him.

Mr. Kiiir made the remarks while addressing a public rally in Wau town on Tuesday after returning from Juba from meeting the leaders of Ethiopia and Eritrea.

“You people of Wau I want to apologize to you for all what happened in 2013 and 2016” said the President.

Mr. Kiir seems to have no knowledge as commander in Chief of SPLA-IG forces, he doesn’t know that he can be held accountable in the face of injustice and atrocities committed by his forces," I have done nothing wrong, I see himself being mistaken" says the President.

The embattling President whom the international community accused his forces of gross violation of human rights, rape, looting, and ethnic cleansing  during the rally which took place in dusty town of Wau says, "If this is SPLM that caused the confusion over power struggle and turned their guns on you, bringing this suffering, I see myself mistaken even if I have not done anything wrong.”

Mr. Kiir seemed to have acknowledged that SPLA soldiers have committed a gross violation of human rights against the unarmed civilians, which if investigated will land him into deep hot water with International Criminal Court in The Hague the Netherlands. However, Mr. Kiir distanced himself from the atrocities committed by his forces. "This is if my party is the one that brought suffering like this,” says Kiir.
