DEATHS IN MAGWI COUNTY: DINKA HERDERS KILL 14 ACHOLI YOUTH.

AT LEAST 14 ACHOLI YOUTH WERE KILLED BY DINKA HERDERS IN MAGWI COUNTY

Magwi, 24 January 2019; Fighting broke out in Magwi County, Torit state between a heavily armed Dinka cattle herders and Acholi youth. Our sources in Magwi reports, the fighting started on Wednesday afternoon after Dinka herders who are armed to the teeth drove their cows in the farmlands and the animals destroyed several acres of farmland in Magwi and surrounding areas.

Our sources further said when the farm owners approached the county officials their effort to get assistance from Magwi County commissioner's was fruitless, since the office of the commissioner cannot, barehandedly, confront the heavily armed Dinka herders backed by SPLA soldiers.

However, the helpless farmers could not sit and watch their field and crops which in the sources of their livelihood be destroyed by the cows, they then took to defend their livelihood. Per the report coming to our desks, the locals at first peacefully asked the herders to drive their cows away from the region, but the cattle keepers responded to this request with the guns, killing 14 people instantly leaving several others wounded. Seeing their people gunned down in cold blood, the Acholi youth quickly organized in counter-response, and quickly overpowered the herders.

Our reliable sources said several people are feared dead in the counter-attack by the youth.

The Acholi, according to the latest news, vowed to drive the cows out of  Magwi to Torit, to Governor's office. They also demand to see the Governor and President Kiir in persons according to our reliable sources in Magwi.
