Pagak, 9 March 2018; As IGAD begins the consultation for the next round of High-Level Revitalization Forum, SPLA-IO has accused the Juba regime for escalating the violent to trying to gain more territory before the next phase of talks kick off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 26-30 April 2018.

“The Military spokesperson of SPLA-IO Brig Gen William Gatjiath Deng, in press release a copy seen by SSLN has accused by building up troops in many places including Maiwut, Akobo.
This is to inform the gallant SPLA (IO) forces that the Juba regime is now deploying to launch simultaneous attacks on SPLA (IO) positions in Maiwut, Mathiang, Mongok, Akobo and Pagak before the next round of talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.” the letter partly reads.

Brig William further accused General Johnson Gony Bilieu for mobilizing troops on behave of the regime in Juba. “General John Gony Bilieu has already dispatched some 200 heavily armed Juba regime soldiers camouflaged in civilian clothes to attack Walgak and Akobo from behind the area between Murle and Ethiopian border districts”. He added.

Brig Willam further warned of imminent attacks by the regimes forces in Maiwut, Mathianag and Mongok. “The imminent attacks on Maiwut, Mathinang and Mongok, which are being organized and coordinated by Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, is to be carried out by some 500 Juba regime soldiers who have already left their trenches at Pagak through Ethiopia border to equally attack the SPLA (IO)-controlled Maiwut from behind”

He said the forces deserve the right to self-defense. “The SPLA (IO) reserves the right to self-defense, and calls upon the region, African Union (AU), United Nations (UN), the Troika and the international community to monitor the Juba regime aggression and hold it accountable for any escalation in these areas or elsewhere across South Sudan, as this would have once again violated the COH”
