TWO LEADING LECTURERS OF JUBA UNIVERSITY ARRESTED BY NATIONAL SECURITY SERVICES WITH THE ORDER OF CHANCELLOR JOHN AKEC
Juba, January 27, 2017; Two Juba University lecturers have been arrested by South Sudan National Security organs. The two lecturers: Philip Finish Apolo and Zhure Sule have recently been in bad terms with the Chancellor John Akec due administration issues. Several lecturers including those arrested, had recently held a meeting during which they called for dismissal of Akec. The lecturers have accused Akec of not following the university regulations in recruitment, examination management and financial management, just to mention few. For example Akec has recently recruited several Dinka people as lecturers without following proper Human Resources [HR] process. He has involved himself in financial mismanagement without regards to following the right procedures.
As result of the call for his dismissal, in retribution. Akec decided to suspend a number of lecturers. Because of suspension of the lecturers, the colleagues of the lecturers decided to call for a meeting to discuss the issue; this moved made Akec to call the security operatives to arrest the two lecturers, he considers as ring leaders.
Akec is the close allied to President Kiir and they all hail from Dinka tribe, the dispute which now led to the interference within the high learning institution by National security Service is viewed as political wrangling between the Dinka dominated government and non Dinka lecturers. Unfortunately the tribal regime wants to extend its control in every institution as result, the one time one of the leading universities in the continent has resorts in employing the incompetent lecturers mainly from Dinka ethnic tribe of the president. And the performance of the students dropped below expectations.
