KIIR, MACHAR HAVE REACHED COMPROMISES ON SOME OUTSTANDING ISSUES, TALKS ARE STILL ON

Khartoum, 26 June 2018; After an intensive face to face discussion between President Salva Kiir and Chairman and Commander in Chief of SPLM/A-IO in a meeting Chaired by the Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al Bashir attended by Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni among many dignitaries, a deal has finally been struck on three outstanding issues. 

Both President Kiir and Dr. Riek have agreed on Declaration of complete and lasting ceasefire and containment of all fighting forces in their positions said senior SPLA-IO member Hon. Peter O. Kleto. 

Mr. Kleto further revealed that the two leaders accepted to work together in the coming Transitional government of National Unity [TGoNU] and agree to forgive each and to apologize to the people of South Sudan for the situation they have been forced into. However, Hon Kleto did not reveal the modality to be used to form the so-called TGoNU. 

The two leaders in the Presence of the President of Sudan have further agreed on three capitals, Juba, Wau, and Malakal during the Transitional period. 

On the economy, Hon Kleto said, since the economy in a worse situation due to the ongoing civil war, the two leaders agree to delegate Sudan to take the necessary steps towards securing oil fields in South Sudan in coordination with the Government of Republic of South Sudan and to work on the rehabilitation of the destroyed oil fields in order to restore previous levels of Oil production. 

Hon Kleto underscored that the talks on outstanding issues on governance and security are under discussion and the talk is going on well with the spirit of reaching a compromise agreement.
