43 GOV'T SOLDIERS WERE KILLED IN FRESH FIGHTING IN UNITY STATE

Bentiu, 08th November 2017: In statement released by military spokesperson of SPLA-IO Brig Gen William Gatjiath Deng, a copy seen by this news site said fresh clashes erupted in Tharkaan and Rupkoni, Unity State in which SPLA-IO has claimed victory over government forces.

The military spokesperson of main armed opposition under the leadership of confined former First Vice President Riek Machar said the coordinated attacks happened on November 4, 2017. 

" On 4, November 2017, fighting erupted between our gallant SPLA (IO) and Juba regime forces in Tharkaan and Rupkoni, Lich State. In this fighting, forty three (43) Juba regime soldiers, including Col Michael Pajok Maker, Operation Commander, his Deputy, Major Puok Tet and four (4) other -ranking officers, were killed by the gallant and brave SPLA (IO) forces of Division 4A under the acting command of Cdr Brigadier General Kur Dhiaydor Turoal, Cdr Brigadier General Nhial Riak Tuay, Brigade One Commander, and Brigadier General Liep Bol, Brigade II Commander, under the overall Command of Sector Two Commander Lt Gen Maguek Gai Majak, captured a number of weapons including twenty two (22) AK 47, two (2) PKMs and three (3) RPG7"

Brig gen Deng however, did not provide figure of any causality from their side, several attempts to reach government informants to verify and dispute the claim by SPLA-IO were fruitless as their phones were switched off.
