Torit Nov 07-2017: The leadership of the SPLA IO would like to acknowledge the defection of Lt Col. Chan Garang Lual from the failed Juba regime to the people's movement (SPLA IO) on 02/11/2017
Lt. Chan Garang Lual was an active operation commander in Torit under the rogue regime until the 26/10/2017 when he marched out of Juba with about 150 well-armed soldiers. Lt. Col. Lual blamed the government of Juba for using soldiers to defend their selfish interest rather than the national interest something that he does not want to continue obeying.
Lt. Col Lual decided to join the SPLA IO under leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny on 2/11/2017 and is currently with the SPLA IO Sector 8 Acting commander Maj. Gen Benjamin Gore. Lual is calling upon his former comrades still in government to join him under the leadership of Dr Riek Machar Teny and remove the rogue regime of Juba.
The SPLA IO appreciates Lt. Col Lual for his bold decision to become a real defender of Freedom, Justice and equality under the able leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny. We are calling upon any patriotic soldier under Juba regime to choose the side of the people not the corrupt individuals in Juba who are using them to defend their selfish interest. Let us welcome Lt. Col Chan Garang Lual and the force under his command to the people's movement. The struggle continues.
However, on Tuesday while speaking to radio FM, he said he defected with 18 other officers this is contrary to the claim by Lam Gabriel Paul who earlier said the general defected with 150 well -armed soldiers.
The defected Col he left Juba to escape the orders that were given to arrest him. “People are being detained without charges. I was in the SPLA Division 2 in Torit. I rebelled because the government wanted to arrest me. We want the people of South Sudan to be united,” he was quoted while talking on radio.
The above claim by the defected Col cannot be independently be verify by SSLN, however people who know the defected officer said he has no option that is why he defected since he is suspected to be in close contact with the oust former chief of staff Paul Malong.
