Juba, 07 November 2017: Talks initiated by group of elders from Aweil, church and advisors from the office of President to reconcile and to ease the tension between Kiir and his former oust military general chief of staff Paul Malong ended without achieving its objective.
Informant with the knowledge inside the meeting to erase the growing military confrontation told this reporter that instead the former army chief threatened and he outlined his demands to deescalate melting pressure. Among others the informant said Paul Malong is still talking of war and has rejected government delegation plan for him to meet Kiir in Presidential Palace. The informant he Malong said the plan is to lure him to J1 only to be disarmed and arrested since his bodyguards won’t be allow to enter J1 this will make him vulnerable.
Malong according to the source said during the meeting demanded all the government soldiers deployed under the order of Kiir around his (Malong's) house should instead be withdraw from the surrounding of his residence without hesitation.
Malong further demanded the presidential decree issued on 30 October to disarm and arrest his bodyguard should be nullify by Kiir. He however, agreed to dispatch his bodyguards back to their military units only when the threat issued by Kiir to arrest them is withhold.
Malong also rejected Kiir's plan to take away any firearms and ammunition under his possession, on Tuesday evening the government soldiers deployed around Malong's house show no sign of withdrawing from the residence of Malong. And the residents of Juba are gripped with anxious waiting whether this will be another December 2013 and July 2016 repeat of conflict.
