INTER-TRIBAL FIGHTING BROKE OUT BETWEEN MADI AND LATUHO IN MAAIJI REFUGEE CAMP, ADJUMANI DISTRICT

Adumani, 5 Nov.2017: Intertribal fighting broke out between Madi and Latuho ethnic groups in Maaiji site three refugee camp situated approximately 36 km South-West of Adjumani Town. Eye witness who spoke to this reporter from the scene of the fighting this morning said, the two ethnic tribes from Eastern Equatoria state of South Sudan locked-hornsinto Physical confrontation after a Latuho boy killed a Madi boy from school playground.

Soon the Madi with the largest populationin Maaiji site three camp went rampant setting local huts of Latuho in blaze, in total 17 local huts of Latuho were burnt into ashes, meanwhile the angry mob vandalized school buildings where the boy was killed.

Intervention by Ugandan police could not stop the fighting and vandalism. Two police men were said to have sustained injuries though their injuries are not life threatening. The situation in  Maaiji site three camp is said to be tense but calm with many Latuho fled to UN for protection. This is the fighting incident of its nature happening in the camp said the local council member in the area. Ugandan authority in Adjumani District with assistance of UN has lunched investigation to determine the circumstance in which the boy was killed.
