AT LEAST 13 GOV'T SOLDIERS DIED IN AMBUSH IN MARIDI ON SUNDAY

Maridi, 31 October 2017: Reports coming Maridi said several government forces were killed on Sunday when the convoy they were traveling in fell in ambush. It is not immediately clear how many soldiers were killed in surprise ambush in an area which has experienced stability in the recent months. However, sources from the area told this news as many as 13 soldiers could have been killed by the rebel forces loyal to confined former Vice president Riek Machar.

Local source who spokes to SSLN in condition of anonymity said the ambush happened at river Olo in Maridi, he said it appeared like the rebels have defeated the government, “after their defeat in what seemed to be fierce fighting, the government soldiers went rampant from village to village killing six civilians, burning houses and looting property” he said.

The regime forces are known by their retaliatory act of killing civilians whenever they were defeated in battle fields, they retaliate by killing civilians, burning and looting of their property, so this accusation is not new. Early this year in Yei government allied militia group of Mathiang Anyor, Dinka affiliated militia went rampaged committing gross violation of human rights against non-Dinka in Yei, an act condemned by Right groups and United Nations.
