PRESIDENT KIIR ISSUED A DECREE FIRING MORE THAN DOZEN JUDGES

 

Juba, 13 July 2017; In unexpected move President Salva Kiir, has issued presidential decree sacking more than dozen judges who had been on strike for the past two months, the judges have been striking and asked the President to fire the country's chief justice Chan Reec Madut.

In complete revised on Thursday president Kiir instead issued an order relieving most of the judges he considers to be threat to his government, hence he relieved the judges without any explanation and reasons for the lay-offs.

In the past three months, more than 270 justices put down their tools and urged President Salva Kiir to fire chief justice Reec, however Kiir downplayed the demands of the judges and refused to act on their ultimatum to fire the country's chief justice, whom the judges claimed ignored their demands for better working conditions in harsh environment.
