MUGALI SPLA-JUBA BASE STORMED BY ARMED MEN, SETTING THE SOLDIERS IN RUN FOR THEIR LIVES LIVING BEHIND VALUABLE GUNS AND AMMUNITION

Nimule, August 6,2016; Unknown armed men who according to eyewitness are well disciplined and heavily armed have stormed SPLA military base in Mugali on Friday, August 5, 2016. According to the eye witness several military from SPLA base were killed as the attack caught the army unaware.  By late evening on Friday some soldiers have reached Nimule on foot saying the armed men they believed to be associated with armed rebels of Riek Machar are speaking in Acholi and Latuho languages, languages spoken by the two tribes of Eastern Equatoria state.

The gunmen have stormed the military base and run it over in just less than 20 minutes, the army numbering closely to 120 at the base mainly inexperienced and under age school going children brought from Northern Bahr el Ghazal run in disarray leaving their guns and ammunitions behind.

The armed men were said to have benefited greatly from guns left behind by the running soldiers. Report from Nimule Hospital said many wounded soldiers have been treated in Nimule Hospital for gunshot wounds.

According to eye witness the gunmen stayed in the base for closely two hours before they retreat and left the base after clearing everything in the store. Some local residents who spoke to this news site said they armed men did not harm anyone among the civilian population nor took civilians’ properties.

Several cattle keepers from Dinka tribe the same ethnic of President Kiir, residing in Sua, Mugali are said to be on move in panic and fear, they are now driving their cows towards Uganda, it is expected that they (the cattle herders) will be unwelcome by Ugandans at the border villages who are mainly farmers as the cows are numbering closely to 40.000 to 65.000.

The base was run just little less than 20 minutes without putting hard resistant, as gun sound can be heard up to Nimule. The armed men mainly used light AK47s though there were rounds of sound of RPG being heard. One particular eye witness who came face to face with the armed men said they were friendly and looking healthy, well dressed in green white military fatigues.
